The Smart Commute project began as an initiative from the local municipalities and regions of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Areas, developed from May 2004 to March 2007.

Montreal is the most populous municipality in the Canadian province of Quebec and the second-most populous municipality in Canada as a whole. The city is centred on the Island of Montreal, which took its name from the same source as the city, and a few much smaller peripheral islands.

InnoCité MTL is the first business accelerator created especially for entrepreneurs who want to collaborate on smart city development, with the aim of implementing solutions for urban issues and challenges. Launched in 2015, the initiative is part of the City of Montréal’s smart and digital action plan for 2015-2017.
