Prague is the capital and largest city in the Czech Republic, and the historical capital of Bohemia. Situated in the north-west of the country on the Vltava river, the city is home to about 1.3 million people, while its larger urban zone is estimated to have a population of 2.2 million.

Prague has been a political, cultural and economic centre of central Europe complete with a rich history. 

Pilsen (Plzeň) is a city in western Bohemia in the Czech Republic. It has a population of about 160-170 thousand people, and is the fourth largest in the Czech Republic.

The city is known worldwide for Pilsner beer, as the pilsner style of beer was developed in Pilsen in the 19th century, and Pilsen now has the biggest distillery in the country. The city is well known for the Pilsner Urquell (since 1842) and Gambrinus (since 1869) breweries. A popular tourist attraction is the Plzeňský Prazdroj brewery tour where visitors can discover the history of beer.

The city of Pilsen, Czech Republic, is on its way towards becoming one of Europe’s smartest cities. A series of initiatives have been undertaken by the city to improve municipal services involving citizens in the process. Besides the Smart Edu Pilsen plan and the city-wide Internet of Things-connected network, Pilsen offers several digital services for citizens.

The Triangulum “lighthouse” programme was launched in February 2015 and it will be developed until January 2020. Triangulum received €25.4 million funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (the overall budget of the programme is €29.5 million).
