Gandhinagar, India
Gandhinagar is the capital of the state of Gujarat in Western India. Gandhinagar is located approximately 23 km north of Ahmedabad, on the west central point of the Industrial corridor between Delhi, the political capital of India, and Mumbai, the financial capital of India.
Gandhinagar, Gujarat's new capital city, lies on the west bank of the Sabarmati River, about 545 km (338 miles) north of Mumbai, the financial capital of India and 901 km (560 miles) southwest of Delhi, the political capital. There is a provision of parks, extensive planting and a recreational area along the river giving the city a green garden-city atmosphere.
A planned city, Gandhinagar is the state capital with wide streets that are numbered and cross streets named after letters of the Gujarati alphabets. The streets create thirty rectangular residential sectors with schools, shopping areas, playgrounds and parks. The capital complex and government offices including the Assembly called the Vidhan Sabha,the Secretariat called Sachivalaya and government office buildings like Udhyog Bhavan, which houses the offices of the industries departments, are located in the centre. The main source of employment in the private sector is provided by two industrial estates dedicated to engineering, electronics and non-polluting light industries. There is also a software technology park called Infocity.
In recent years, Gandhinagar has grown into an educational hub with prestigious institutions as the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar, National Institute of Design (Gandhinagar campus), Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology, National Institute of Fashion Technology, Gujarat National Law University, Bhaskaracharya Institute For Space Applications and Geo-Informatics, Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Unitedworld (a campus with a business school, design school and law school), Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India and colleges for engineering, dentistry, management among others located in and around Gandhinagar or on the highways from Gandhinagar to Ahmedabad.

Gandhinagar Capital railway station. Many trains running on the western zones pass through Gandhinagar. Currently there are 5 trains running from this station in which 3 are express trains and 2 are MEMU trains. Jaipur-Bandra Garib Rath, Haridwar mail for Delhi and Haridwar and Shanti Express for Indore Junction BG are main express trains running through this station.
Ahmedabad Railway Station in Kalupur. Ahmedabad is the nearest rail junction (25 km away) which provides connectivity with all the major cities and towns of India.
