Ranchi, India
Ranchi is the capital of the Indian state of Jharkhand, and is the 3rd most populous city of the state. Ranchi was the centre of the Jharkhand movement, which called for a separate state for the tribal regions of South Bihar, northern Orissa, western West Bengal and the eastern area of what is present-day Chhattisgarh. Ranchi is a prominent political, commercial, industrial medical and eductional hub of eastern India. A large number of public sector enterprises like the Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC), Central Coalfields Ltd (CCL), Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), Mecon Ltd, formerly known as (Metallurgical & Engineering Consultants (India) etc. were set up in Ranchi primarily because the area around Ranchi was richly endowed in minerals.
