Vellore, India
Vellore is part of Tondaimandalam (Tondai Nadu), a city and the administrative headquarters of Vellore District in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
Vellore City is the home of two of India's top ten educational institutions, Christian Medical College & Hospital and VIT University. It is also a major centre for medical tourism in India.
It's known for 16th-century Vellore Fort, with its imposing granite walls and surrounding moat. Inside the fort, the Jalakandeswarar Temple features many ornate sculptures. Nearby, the Government Museum has prehistoric relics and natural history displays. By the Palar River, the Muthu Mandapam memorial houses the tomb of a Tamil leader.
Vellore region is the top exporter of finished leather goods in the country. Vellore leather accounts for more than 37% of the country's export of leather and leather-related products.
Connectivity
Vellore has three main railway stations: Katpadi junction, Vellore Cantonment and Vellore Town.
The Vellore Airport is located at Abdullapuram. The service begins from March 2018.
